8.03 km Morning Walk – Aerobic Endurance Session
This morning’s 8.03 km walk took 1 hour and 15 minutes at an average pace of 9:21/km. With an average heart rate of 118 bpm and 547 calories burned, it was a controlled aerobic endurance session.
I headed out for a walk this morning, covering 8.03 km in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 5 seconds. It was a controlled session from start to finish, with a steady pace and a relatively low average heart rate.
The main aim was simply to get the distance in without turning the walk into a harder workout. Looking at the numbers afterwards, it was a good aerobic endurance session with very little time spent at higher intensity.
8.03 km Walking Session
- Distance: 8.03 km
- Duration: 1:15:05
- Average pace: 9:21 min/km
- Average heart rate: 118 bpm
- Maximum heart rate: 141 bpm
- Calories: 547 kcal
Very Consistent Pace
One of the things that stood out was how consistent the pace remained throughout the eight recorded kilometres.
- 1 km: 9:26
- 2 km: 9:05
- 3 km: 9:33
- 4 km: 9:26
- 5 km: 9:22
- 6 km: 9:13
- 7 km: 9:19
- 8 km: 9:27
The fastest kilometre was the second at 9:05, while the slowest was the third at 9:33. That’s a difference of just 28 seconds, which shows that the effort stayed remarkably controlled over the majority of the walk.
Heart Rate and Training Effect
The heart-rate figures also suggest that this was primarily an aerobic session. My average heart rate was 118 bpm, with a maximum of 141 bpm.
The activity recorded:
- Extreme: 0 minutes
- Anaerobic: 1 minute
- Aerobic: 56 minutes
- Fat burning: 17 minutes
- Warm-up: 0 minutes
With just one minute recorded as anaerobic and the vast majority of the session in the aerobic and fat-burning categories, this was much more about sustained movement and endurance than pushing for speed.
A Useful Endurance Session
Walking more than 8 km at around 6.4 km/h makes this considerably more than a casual stroll. The pace was brisk enough to provide a worthwhile cardiovascular workout while remaining manageable for the full 75 minutes.
What I particularly liked about this session was the combination of distance, pace control and heart-rate management. There was no need to force the pace. The objective was to keep moving, maintain a sensible effort and complete the distance, and the numbers suggest that worked well.
The Takeaway
This morning’s 8.03 km walk was a good example of how a longer, controlled walking session can complement harder exercise. It provided more than an hour of continuous movement, covered a meaningful distance and kept the cardiovascular intensity under control.
8.03 km, 75 minutes and an average heart rate of 118 bpm. A solid aerobic endurance session to start the day.
