Race Analysis
The opening kilometre was slightly conservative, most likely due to the usual congestion around the start. Once I found some space, the second kilometre was my quickest at 4:14/km, showing there was plenty of pace available.
The remaining three kilometres were consistent, ranging between 4:23/km and 4:42/km. Rather than fading significantly, I was able to maintain a strong effort through to the finish.
My average heart rate of 161 bpm, with a maximum of 178 bpm, suggests I worked hard but remained in control throughout the run. It felt like a sustainable race effort with enough left for a strong finish.
Final Thoughts
Finishing in the top 11% of a field of 534 runners is encouraging, and the overall pacing was solid despite the slower opening kilometre. If I can begin a little closer to my target pace without going out too hard, there’s every chance of taking another 15–20 seconds off my time.
Overall, I’m pleased with today’s performance. Another enjoyable Saturday morning at Telford parkrun and another step forward in building fitness.
